So like a normal college student, I am completely broke but I wanted to add something unique and chic to my study room. I went to world market, ikea and other stores but everything that I liked was too expensive! One day on my acceptance that I could not buy something expensive, I headed to big lots and despite my open minded mode I could not find my perfect celling lamp. Instead I found a ball of twine.
I could not take pics of the precess but here it is a list of what you will need:
- 2 Balls of twine (natural color)
- 1 packet of your preferred color of clothing dye
- 4-5 oz of white glue
- Water
- 16-18 inches balloon
- Celling light cord (You can find single ones at Lowes or double like mine at Ikea)
- In a deep bowl pour the glue and add water to dissolve it. Make sure you add just enough water to make the glue manageable.
- If you decide to dye your lamp follow the instructions on the carton for the dye and dip your twine into the color. If you prefer the natural color of the twine go to step three.
- Take your twine and dip it into the mixture of glue and water. Let it soak for 10 minutes.
- Blow your ballon(s) until you reach the diameter desired.
- You will need assistance to wrap the ballon with the twine so as someone to assist you by holding the balloon.
- Find one of the twine and start wrapping the balloon with it. Make sure the twine is wet with the glue mixture.
- Start from the bottom up and around back to the bottom and repeat on opposite direction.
- After you have a strong foundation, go in different random directions that will give the cool personality that you want. Make sure you have at least four layers of twine before you stop.
- Let it dry under the sun. Place a cloth and just let it soak in the sun! I would recommend two to three days.
- If you feel the twine is dry, grab a needle and simply pop the balloon! You should have a perfectly amazing round ball of twine.
- If you are not a technician ask for help to install the celling light. Grab a few strings of the ball and sure them in the light fixture. Make sure the twine is isolated from any electricity cables and that is surrounded by plastic like in the pic.
- TA-DÁ!! Enjoy your new bright creation!
