I want new, hip circular lamps now!

So like a normal college student, I am completely broke but I wanted to add something unique and chic to my study room. I went to world market, ikea and other stores but everything that I liked was too expensive! One day on my acceptance that I could not buy something expensive, I headed to big lots and despite my open minded mode I could not find my perfect celling lamp. Instead I found a ball of twine.

I could not take pics of the precess but here it is a list of what you will need:

  • 2 Balls of twine (natural color)
  • 1 packet of your preferred color of clothing dye
  • 4-5 oz of white glue
  • Water
  • 16-18 inches balloon
  • Celling light cord (You can find single ones at Lowes or double like mine at Ikea)
Here are the steps:

  1. In a deep bowl pour the glue and add water to dissolve it.  Make sure you add just enough water to make the glue manageable.
  2. If you decide to dye your lamp follow the instructions on the carton for the dye and dip your twine into the color. If you prefer the natural color of the twine go to step three.
  3. Take your twine and dip it into the mixture of glue and water. Let it soak for 10 minutes.
  4. Blow your ballon(s) until you reach the diameter desired.
  5. You will need assistance to wrap the ballon with the twine so as someone to assist you by holding the balloon.
  6. Find one of the twine and start wrapping the balloon with it. Make sure the twine is wet with the glue mixture.
  7. Start from the bottom up and around back to the bottom and repeat on opposite direction.
  8. After you have a strong foundation, go in different random directions that will give the cool personality that you want. Make sure you have at least four layers of twine before you stop.
  9. Let it dry under the sun. Place a cloth and just let it soak in the sun! I would recommend two to three days.
  10. If you feel the twine is dry, grab a needle and simply pop the balloon! You should have a perfectly amazing round ball of twine.
  11. If you are not a technician ask for help to install the celling light. Grab a few strings of the ball and sure them in the light fixture. Make sure the twine is isolated from any electricity cables and that is surrounded by plastic like in the pic.

From Trash to Restoration to FABULOUS!!

My dad is a construction worker and often he is asked to take old furniture to the  trash. In one occasion he was asked to throw out this old wood sewing machine stand and he thought I would like it for my sewing machine. He was completely right and as soon as I saw it, I knew it was going to be a pinterest task. Here is what I did with it:

  1. You need to start by sanding your piece. Make sure you sand on a circular motion until all the gloss is gone.

  2. Clean your piece from all the dust from the sanding.
  3. Apply white primer twice. A good application of primer will help you achieve better results, especially if your base color is a deep or bold color.
  4. Trace with tape the shapes that you want paint in your piece. In my case I opted for an irregular chevron pattern.
  5. Let it dry and reapply your secondary colors.
  6. You can opt to apply paint protection. I used a spray mate paint protector for mine.
  7. Ta-dá!! Enjoy your renew beautiful piece.

BACK TO FITNESS

Hello readers, and lovely follower, so yesterday I went back to the gym since a few months ago, and by a few I mean almost a year. I did a beautiful muscle killer class called body pump from les mills. This class is amazing to help  you tone your muscles and help you get stronger. Today I feel really sore but feels really good!
If you are trying to get back to the gym and to fitness do not hesitate to stop after work or get up early. Set your mind in your commitment to your body and GO! Also, find motivation and remember always what your goal is. I know is easy to say but it actually works.
After you have made your commitment prepare for your challenge. Make sure you have an appropriate diet and do some research to get a good protein supplement. Protein is really important when working out because this will help your muscle recover faster and get stronger so you can kill them again on your next workout. Moreover, ALWAYS ALWAY and I repite ALWAYS drink water before and after workouts your body and mind have to always be hydrated. This will also keep you more alert and refresh so you can last your whole workout.
If you starting, please start slow. You do not want to injure any part of your body on your first week going to the gym. Try gym classes, the instructors will give you low options and gym classes are always fun and help you keep engaged on your goal.
This are a few tips if you have any questions, I am here for you! Let me know anything that is in your mind to help each other, have an amazing thursday readers, and lovely follower!! :)

New Phase

New Phase

Hello everyone! I am D, I know sounds cliche but my name is a little complicated so I will leave it at D. I am a 24 year old mexican girl. Moved to the states at 18 and had to adapt to this new world in a short time. I had to learn english, a new culture and a totally different way of living in one year. I am still alive so it has not been so bad.
After that little introduction I just want to tell you what this blog is going to be about a mix of everything. My purpose is to share, like everybody on the web, a little bit of my daily life. Moreover this blog is not going to be only about me. I want you to participate and opinions or even post anything you would like to add about a twenty something year old life.
Being in your twenties is hard enough. If you are in your twenties and you're having conversations with your friends but you always find yourself saying things like " OMG, I am twenty-? and I have not finished school" or " I am twenty-? and I am not sure what I am doing with my life" or " I am twenty-? and what have I done to be a better me?" Simple answer, nobody knows. So I have two tips for this dilema. Number one always do what YOU want to do and feels right and number two do not break your head because, again is going to sound cliche, everything happens for a big fat reason.
After this said I just want to convoque all the girls and even guys to share with me thoughts, tips, quotes, activities and why not even discussions. I will be posting just that, so you can see my concept of my twenty-? life and I would like to get to know your own perspective. I look forward to see your participation!!!

   Love, D.
